Permanent Tattoo is a cosmetic technique which employs tattoos (permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eye lining and other permanent enhancing colours to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids. It is also used to produce artificial eyebrows, particularly in people who have lost them as a consequence of old age, disease, such as alopecia totalis, chemotherapy, or a genetic disturbance, and to disguise scars and white spots in the skin such as in vitiligo

Permanent makeup before and after

Try not to touch your brows at all! Fingers have dirt and bacteria on them and touching the brows with unclean fingers can cause an infection.

For the next 2-5 days your brows can feel and look:

  • Tender
  • Swollen
  • Dry and itchy
  • Redness

For the first few days, up to a week the brows can look up to 50% DARKER than the desired result. This will become lighter after the first week.

The true healed colour does not come through until 4-6 weeks after your first treatment.

It is very common for the pigment colour to go very patchy, uneven and can even look as if it has disappeared completely. This is due to the healing process! You have to wait 4-6 weeks after the treatment before you can have any further permanent cosmetics done.

Try not to get the area wet. Do not rub the area, pat the area dry. When cleansing your skin, use a face cloth to take off the product. Try to avoid splashing your face with water or getting products near the treated area.
Avoid AHA or BHA products (products with acids) or retinol. These  encourage the skin to shed and can make the pigment fade very quickly.

  • Maintenance treatments are recommended every 12-18 months and they will keep your brows looking even and sufficiently pigmented. If you choose not to have maintenance done every so often, your brows will fade between 2-5 years.
  • Avoid sun tanning and tanning beds if possible. Exposure to UV rays will make the pigment fade significantly if not protected by a minimum of 30 SPF.
  • Try to avoid using skincare products that contain Alpha Hydroxy Acids or Beta Hydroxy Acids as they encourage the skin to shed quickly. This can result in loss of pigment.
  • Always inform your practitioner or therapist if you are having cosmetic or surgical procedures done.
  • If you donate blood, please inform the National Blood Services of when you have had your permanent makeup procedure done.
  • Laser hair removal or IPL hair removal in the treated area can result in loss of pigment. Always let your practitioner know that you have had permanent makeup done.
  • DO NOT Pick or scratch the brows, even if they are itchy. You can risk lifting the pigment out of the skin. Scarring could also occur if you pick off any scabs.
  • DO NOT apply makeup for 72 hours in the area.
  • DO NOT expose the skin to extreme heat or cold: sauna, jacuzzi, salt water, chlorinated pools, hot water, etc. for at least one week.
  • DO NOT apply any form of creams, products, Vaseline or ointment on the treated area.
